THE SCENE AT THE START
Karen Yeargain, a public health nurse, has placed surprisingly well with her Siberian team in 17th place. Common knowledge usually gives the nod in speed to the Alaskans over the more deliberate trot of the Siberians, but she is erasing standards.  At the start line, her swifts were pounding their harnesses, then descended the slope from the start, disregarding resistance as the slight built Yeargain stood on the brakes. A rooster tail of snow followed the sled to the bottom.

Yeargain eclipses the excellent Siberian team of Brian Gaskel (18th place standing) by only 4 seconds. This will be a race of honor amongst the pure breed Siberian fanciers, a fact both of them joked about at the starting chute.

FINISH LINE
Yeargain‘s purebred team of Siberians, meanwhile, was substantially in advance of Brian Gaskel’s Siberian team, as she and Husky pullers strongly trotted into the finish.
